Christina Schwab, who was born with spina bifida, discovered wheelchair basketball at the age of 11 during a summer camp and has since excelled in the sport. She has played at all levels, representing multiple US National Teams. Schwab has an impressive Paralympic record, competing in five games and winning gold medals in wheelchair basketball at the Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and Rio 2016 games. In 2019, she was inducted into the NWBA Hall of Fame as an athlete member.
Schwab’s coaching career includes working with the Denver Rolling Nuggets at the junior level, serving as an assistant coach at the University of Illinois, and leading the UW-Whitewater women’s wheelchair basketball team for six seasons. In June 2021, she was chosen as an assistant coach for the gold medal-winning Team USA Men’s Wheelchair Basketball at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Later in December 2021, she was appointed as the Head Coach of Team USA Women’s Wheelchair Basketball, leading the team to win the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.
Schwab graduated from the University of Illinois in 2005 with a B.S. in Community Health and obtained an MSE in Higher Education Leadership with an emphasis on Athletic Administration from UW-Whitewater in 2021.
Christina resides in Edgerton, WI, with her husband, CJ, and their sons, Lincoln and Miles.
